A Tool of Economic Justice
Offering a sliding scale is a tool for economic justice and comes from a desire to create multiple access points that reflect the manifold economic realities of those wanting to learn with me. I strive to offer products and services at a variety of price points as well as multiple give according to your means offerings throughout the year, including keeping The Living Room so that folks from different economic backgrounds feel welcome to take part.
The sliding scale works when it relies on the principles of truthfulness, respect for complexity, and accountability. I do not ask for income verification. I trust my students and clients to be honest. Having said this, if you request a sliding scale that you do not need, know that you are undermining someone’s opportunity to make use of this economic justice tool.
